I want to add a time dependence external force such as a pulse into my model in comsol. How do I add this?
in general, How can I add a time dependence variable or dipole(for example) in a time dependence study? for example a dipole that radiate from t=5s to 10s and then it doesn't radiate, while simulation time is from 0 to 20s

You can use piecewise equations in the definitions section in your model tree.
In the piecewise function, your function argument will be the time ( t ). Then you can define the radiation factor depending to time as
0 - 5 -->>> 0;
5 - 10 -->>> 1;
10-20 -->>>0;
Make sure you assign proper unites for the function. Then use this function ( i.e. pw1(t) ) where you apply the radiation load.

just would like to add, that in some cases direct step changes can be difficult for numerical solving. Therefore, ramping values up (or down) might be needed.
