Can we create a pattern of ongoing reflection with a growing e-Portfolio owned by the learner that empower and engages more intimately learning process? Share your thought.
I think Mahara is better designed for e-Porfolio (than, for example, Moodle).
I use it for e_Journal (Reflective Journal) to teach future teachers. It allows me to give my student feedback on a variety of issues such as content, pedagogical experience, even web-design and attached sense of ownership.
One of the disadvantages of Maraha that its syetem does not talk to other platforms e.g. Moodle CMS
Yes, I do agree with you. Mahara is better designed for e-Portfolio but not so friendly with other platform.
I also have experience use social networking e-Portfolio, created by Prof Ali Jafari and the team. He has designed e-Portfolio but focusing on social interaction. I have tested use for one semester, and the outcome was so interesting and students like it.
For formative assessment of an ePortfolio, you need a rubric. The rubric should be based on the outcome skills and/or knowledfe that you have established for the course or for the academic program.
But you need to provide the learner with more than just a number on a rubric scale. You must provide thoughtful comments about where the learner stands with respect to the desired outcome level, with specific suggestions about things needing improvement.
