How do EMT inducing transcription factors like SNAIL1 ,ZEB1 and ZEB2 up-regulate many genes expression?
I know that for example ZEB1 and ZEB2 dimerizes with E-box motif in different promoters like E-Cadherin promoter and down-regulates E-cadherin and other epithelial genes. But How do they UP-regulate many other genes like Vimentin, N-Cadherin???
Please answer with reference.
EMT-related transcriptional factors (TFs) such as Snail, Slug, Twist, ZEB1 and ZEB2 are expected to up-regulate vimentin and N-cadherin by directly binding to the promoter regions or suppressing the TFs complex which contribute to the maintenance of the epithelial phenotype.

As far as I know ,most of the EMT-TFs are repressors of their target genes by binding to their promoter and thus inhibiting binding of RNA polymerases to the target promoters. In this way, they cause a reduction in the expression of the gene. And also, I don't think that suppressing epithelial phenotype individually will cause up-regulation of mesenchymal genes.
