The difference in immunogenicity between different BCG strains seems to be related to the genetic characteristics of the BCG strains.
These strains mostly differ in cell mediated immunity like local granuloma formation, delayed type hypersensitivity, non-specific immuno-potentiation to unrelated antigen and spleen index.

Locality for a given strain could affect the antigenicity.This is due to the antigenic variation among differnt local strains.This is a general concept for microorganisms.
