How can you validate an assumption in the construction other than survey or direct interview?
If your assumption represents the relationship between two concepts, then you need to have some kind of measure of each to assess that. Depending on what you are trying to measure, those variables don't have to come from interviews.

Validity describes the closeness of what we measure to what we intend to measure or to the concept it claims to measure.
External validity describes the ability to apply the findings of the research to other studies with confidence.
Internal validity addresses the reasons for the outcome of the study with three main approaches:
content, construct, and criterion validity.
Content validity measures the degree to which your research design adequately reflects the intended concept
Construct validity shows the relationship between the concepts under study and the related hypothesis i.e. the relation between variables and factors conformed to what might be expected.
Criterion validity is established if a tool can be compared to other similar related measures of the same concept.
For construct validity, you can use statistical tests that can be categorized into descriptive, correlational, predictive, and group differences. Correlational tests indicate both the strength and direction of the relationship between a pair of variables and Regression is concerned with making predictions. Group differences tests compare the medians of groups, such as Mann-Whitney test or Kruskal-Wallis to determine whether the groups are the same or not.
It is important that you find out how your hypothesis fits into these three categories of content, construct, and criterion.
