For me it is a mentality-related subject. You need to have the right mentality and state of mind to be able to publish in high ranked and estimed journal. All the other technical things will come along in a natural way such as characterization, writing style or novelty.
PS: the idea of having a famous authors in your Ms. just for the sake of publishing in high IF journals is a completly odd idea which give rise to a lot of questioning and unfairness to the publishing process.
