I am modelling an RC beam in Abaqus that is subjected to symmetrical loading. My professor has advised me to consider modelling half of the beam, to save computational time. If I am not wrong, he advised the addition of spring stiffness on the beam edge where the beam can be split into two symmetrical halves.
Can you recommend methods for modelling half the beam? and also where can I find the appropriate sources to learn adding these stiffness constants?

If you model the beam as a solid, you can probably use some of the pre-defined abaqus boundary conditions, like xsymm, ysymm etc.

If you model the RC beam as a solid model (I would advise that) you only need to fix the displacements that are orthogonal to the face where you split the beam. The part with spring stiffness needs some more explanation from your part. I do not understand why you should add additional stiffnes?
Best practice would be to use displacemnet boundary conditions.

you can model the stirrups as a wire element in Abaqus. You first draw a rectangle to the size of your stirrus in Part module. Define a beam section for this and assign the section to your part. I would advise you choose "truss" family within the beam and not the beam family. If you choose Beam family you need give beam orientation etc. You may need to take some pattern to produce more numbers of similar stirrups and you can do this in the assembly module. Make sure you give embedded constrain condition to your stirrups to simulate them to act as one body in the concrete.
