I have been carrying out research works on materials processing with a focus on metal matrix composites and welding processes. Top journals in our field scrapped methodologies based on ANN and design of experiments approach (Central Composite Design, Box Behnken Design, Orthogonal design, Taguchi method etc). It is very rare to find a paper using this methodology in reputed journals now a days. There are two primary reasons. They are mere tools that a researcher uses. It is not countable as original contribution to the research work. Secondly, all of these methodologies simply play around the inputted numbers. None of these tools can understand any manufacturing processes. They can not predict unexpected changes and rapid shifts in process outputs. Their prediction is limited to a narrow range of process parameters.

Before uploading the paper you need to check the scope of your work in the particular journal. In some journal, even though the work is coming under their scope, but still they are rejecting the paper. They are very much choosy on newly developed work in that particular platform over the extended version of a existing work. In my experience, if you can expose your work in a nice way according to the style of writing of the journal and able to justify your work, then the chance of acceptance rate is more. Therefore, before submission of the work you need to concern the ethics of the journal.

It is important to use the right methodology for the each research problem. It does not necessarily mean that the methodology is not contributing to knowledge but the question is "Are you using the right method?"

Thank you Ikenna Uwanuakwa for your question. There are several reasons here. First, the journal you have selected not specialised in such type of research, and you should approach the right journal. Second, usually, the reviewers look at if the chosen method can allow the researcher to answer their research questions. Other issues they consider- Is the method well described and cited? Is the method valid and reliable? The number of participants or sample size, the research design, and how the method was implemented? Third, there are small problems here and there in the method. Such problems may raise such decision, or inconsistencies between what was described under methods and the results and reported findings. Fourth, the reviewer is not an expert in such area. However, usually good journals ask 4-5 reviewers, and this helps the editors in making a final decision. I think this should not stop you from amending your manuscript and submitting it to another journal.

Right journals has to be selected for publishing purpose with good stuff in paper

From my point of view there are two aspects:

1. It depends on the scope of the journal (often the magazine opts for more traditional applications to newer techniques, except when this technique has a totally new and well-founded theoretical basis)

2. It depends on the reviewers, because sometimes due to the lack of technical aptitude of the reviewer, he tends to decline the article because he cannot understand the concept.

In my reviews I usually stick to the following items to assess the contribution: 1. effective problem definition; 2. problem solving approach; 3. clear description of the solution. 4. evaluation of the data obtained in comparison with techniques already used.
