I don't know the standards that used to define the adaptation, and it may confused with many other terms refers to change like mutation, therefore, I hope that all researchers can help me in writing the definition for adaptation and what's the difference between adaptation and change?

I believed the meaning of adaptation can be vividly define after distinguishing International Marketing from Global Marketing. There is adaptation in International Marketing. Product, price and promotion are change to satisfy international customers ( different places ) in difference segments. In my humble opinion, adaptation is an adjustment that is to be done by the corporation on the product, price and promotion to suit the consumers' demand in a certain place and by so doing change is applied.
An adaptation is defined as a beneficial mutation in terms of survival or reproduction. Mutations happen every day in every organism, and even more prominently during propagation (genetic recombination). Genes that have been altered, or new alleles, that by chance favor the changing environment are referred to as adaptation. For example, with mongooses the fastest runner is likely to kill and catch the most prey. If their habitat were to flood suddenly and the landscape change, then the strongest swimmer has the feeding advantage etc.
Adaptation is acclimatizing to something different from what was the norm. Change is a transition from one state to another. It is from this other that one acclimatizes to, which herein has been referred to as adaptation.
Adaptation :

- Treated as a "consequence" of mutation.
- Genotypical
- Targeted towards survival
Change:
- Subsumes adaptation
- Phenotypical
- Morphological marker targeted towards growth
While change as a scaling process in growth, can be a creative response, not carrying with it the urgency for dealing with the external, ecological challenges. Adaptative response is always a consequence of change. So that there are change/growth trajectories but no adaptation trajectories. The change/growth trajectories may be characterized as a series of incremental adaptations.
From a ‘systems’ perspective, adaptation can be described as a kind of change.
Adaptation of a system (including organic [cells] and mechanised [computers]) is an alteration to the system’s structure (components and relationships [interaction between components]). The adaptation can lead to a change in the state of the system.
Change refers to an alteration of something, but it may be outside of the system you are interested in. This means that it could be a change in the supra-system or environment that is influencing the system. It can also be a change outside of the system that the system is causing.
Accepting that systems exist in interactive hierarchies (e.g. cells within animals, animals within ecosystems) then in reality any change implies adaptation somewhere, but it may not be in the system you are analysing.
Begin clear about what you are studying, including what is in and outside of the system with help you to define if you are talking about an adaptation or a change in the environment influencing the system.
You could generally see adaptation as the reaction of open organized structures/ systems to challenges in function of time.
Open organized structures/ systems have to maintain their functioning and integrity in a given environment they depend of and/or are related to.
Challenges can be due to external causes (steady environmental conditions to which the open organized structure/ system has to adapt in due time, but also including changes, in temperature, in physical, mechanical solicitations, in functioning conditions, in available resources, …) and to internal causes (loss of adaptation resources, local defects, injuries, …)
Examples can be found in several fields :
- Industrial components subject to physical, mechanical, chemical, … stresses (e.g. pipes subject to high temperature creep in refineries, …)
- Everyday life entities manufactured for a given purpose (e.g. engines, cars, power plants, …)
- Biological entities subject to life conditions (from bacteria to mammals, but also parts like cells, organs, nervous, endocrine… systems, ….)
- Ecological systems
- ………..
Adaptation is the biological mechanism by which organisms adjust to new environments or changes in their current environment. By adaptation, an organism becomes better able to live in its habitat or habitats.
The difference is that change is to become something different while adapt is to make suitable
