We need to create a model. Our dataset contains a bunch of daily values of covariates, including wind direction. But the response variable, which is a count data, is provided at a weekly basis. We are planing to calculate weekly averages for all of variables so that we can have equal time frames for both covariates and the response variable. First of all we're not even sure using the average is sufficient or not. But assuming the covaiates' weekly means can result in a proper and unbiased inout for our model, how can we calculate the mean of wind direction?

Forgot to answer the wind direction just use wind direction in degrees or radians would be better. Anyway N is 0, East is 90 etc etc David Booth

We have the wind directoin on degrees, but we have a problem with the direction. For example, imagine once sind is blowing from west and once from east, What woud the mean of that be? south? That's just wrong.
May be it's possible to use median value instead of mean one. In this case you will take only direction value from the sorce array. To get into analisys wind characteristic you can find mediana of (velosity * direction).
One more problem with direction of the wind is 0 and 360 degrees. It's the same direction, but different values.
Wind direction is an angle, so you should definitely fit the frequencies with a periodical function (period 360°, with harmonics)! The peak will show you the dominant direction. With this software it's very easy (25 days free trial):
