I want to start a research about cultural rights and the environment. It is related to my last work "Preventing and pursuing the destruction of Shiite holy sites according to the case of Bamiyan's Buddhas". I consider the aspects of the relation between cultural rights, eg. cultural sites, and the environment. How can we promote our protection of cultural sites against damage? What are the damages that threat cultural sites? Is there any action that the states should fulfil? What about native people? ...
The people have adapted their ways of life and behaviors to survive in their unique environment. Explain that different cultures develop different characteristics primarily because of adaptations to environments. Traditions often begin as people find rituals and routines that help them survive.
In Brazil, the relationship between culture and environment is very present in indigenous communities.
The different indigenous communities have different beliefs regarding the environment, but a common aspect among them is that they respect and preserve the environment.
Their soil management and the low impact of their dwellings, for example, help to increase the diversity of the local flora and fauna.
Furthermore, some regions where indigenous people live are considered protected areas by the State, which helps to contain deforestation, mining, and to regulate the climate (the main threats to the environment in these regions, especially in the Amazon region).
Thus, the interaction between the indigenous culture and the environment in Brazil is an example of how culture can be fundamental to the preservation of the environment in Brazil.

In New Zealand a feature of our Resource Management Act 1991 (see https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1991/0069/latest/DLM231910.html) is having regard to kaitiakitanga (defined in the Act as meaning “the exercise of guardianship by the tangata whenua of an area in accordance with tikanga Maori in relation to natural and physical resources; and includes the ethic of stewardship” and “tangata whenua” means the Māori people of the land). Matters of “national importance” are defined (at https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1991/0069/latest/DLM231907.html) as including “(e) the relationship of Maori and their culture and traditions with their ancestral lands, water, sites, waahi tapu, and other taonga: (f) the protection of historic heritage from inappropriate subdivision, use, and development: (g) the protection of protected customary rights:”).
