I would like to learn drawing or getting centerline of a surface in Solidworks. I search on internet but I found limited information. I found a programs like VMTKLab.There is a section for centerline computing.

Probably there is a method to get by using Solidworks.I will work on 3D modelled human leg, I want to get centerline of it to use in analysis as reference. Any ideas? Thanks.
Many times things like this come up just by hovering your cursor while sketching an object. They may not appear unless you are actively adding a sketch element like a line or circle or something.
In 3D go to Tools > Sketch Entities > Centerline

In a drawing document, click Center line (Annotation toolbar), or click Insert > Annotations > Center-line.
The Center-line Property Manager appears.
You can select either the tool or an entity first.
Hi Huseyin, the centre line of an object as complex as a human leg requires a little more effort than a simple surface would. Are you looking for a straight line from top to bottom that on average describes a central axis or do you wish for a curved line representing the true centre (width of bone/2)?
Is this a centre line from one view only or a curved centre line true in 3 dimensions?

I would like to have straight line in 3 dimension of a section. Actually the section that I mentioned has been builded by using 2 surfaces.

Hi Huseyin, I am still a little unsure as to what exactly you want but I have a suggestion:
I would recommend picking a planer surface/ plane and draw how you would like the centre line to appear in that view. (This plane does not need to be touching the actual model, it can be off set. You may find it easier to create a new plane for this purpose). If the centre line is a straight line you can simply draw this from top to bottom. If it is curved then you can trace the outline of the bone (or use the convert entities command) and then draw a curved centre line between these two out lines, you can use symmetry (skip to 2:00 minutesin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuZ0KK0CXl4) to help position markers at key points and then join them up, perhaps with a spline. This will give you the centre line as it appears in that view.
Repeat this process by drawing on a second plane and you will now have two "centre lines" each true in their own respective views. Select one of your centre lines and use it to create a surface perpendicular to the sketch plane and make sure to extrude it far enough to intersect the model. Do the same with the other centre line and again make sure it is long enough to intersect the model and the first surface. The intersection of these two surfaces should give you a centre line through the centre of the bone. I hope this was what you were looking for and my explanation was clear enough.
It depends on which plane you are working in. Once you understand the concept of planes it will be easy to draw the centreline.
