I have conducted proteomic studies related to the identification of proteins and peptides from an organism. However, I found one protein that is categorized as uncharacterized, how can I interpret it, can I declare the protein as a novel protein?
if you are performing blast you find a sequence classified as uncharacterized but withj 100% of homology?
Because in this case, you did not identified a new protein but you identified a protein for which the function was not still identified that is little different.
Generally the most of protein are assigned in term of name on the basis of sequence similarity with already characterized proteins but there are still a good % of genes that codify a protein with an unknown function and study the protein to revela its unknonw function could be certanilly interesting.
