I am aware of shock tubes with driving and driven gas separated by a diaphragme. But the rig I wish to design has a steady subsonic flow through it and I still want to add a moving shock wave. The idea i have is to have a pressurised plenum with a fast acting solenoidvalve on a small pipe leading to the rig. The idea is that when the valve opens for a short time the expanding air from the plenum will make a shockwave that travels along the pipe and out in to the rig. Do you know a way of esimating the strength of shockwave I would get given initial pressures and the diameter of the valve and pipe?
