I think this depends upon the aim of the graphite. If you want to use it to produce nanotubes or graphene sheets, it needs a purification which uses strong acids. Protocols for this are numerous, but I think I could help you once I know what the purpose of your research is.
Dear Harrie A Verhoeven , I know that two years have passed and you might not remember the answer of this question, but I want to exfoliate graphite via water and Pluronic F127 using Silverson shear mixer. Should I wash my graphite before performing any lab experiment?
Note that my graphite is: Graphite flakes, 99% carbon basis, -325 mesh particle size (≥99%), natural.
One more question, if I want to perform TGA characterization for pristine graphite; i want to burn graphite under airflow, should I also wash the graphite before putting it in the pan for TGA analysis? Thanks in advance.
