You may also want to look into EU's FADN database. Data at country/region level of aggregation are for free and available for download. Though it's UE only you may still distinguish between developing and developed regions based on GDP (or GVA) per capita available at Eurostat.

You may not find the data set already categorized.
I suggest you dish out your sampling procedure and select some countries in both categories first.
Secondly, get the data for each of the selected country from FAOSTAT available at http://www.fao.org/faostat/en/#data
