How can one explain the Upconversion phenomena in nanomaterials?

We prepared CuInS nanomaterials.

The nanoparticles were excited with 800nm and the yield emission peak found at about 700 nm.

We can not find sharp explanation to this phenomena. Why this nanoparticles have Upconversion emission?
