How can we check the validity and reliability of a construct that has formative indicators? The usual procedures that we apply to establish the validity and reliability of reflective construct do not apply to formative constructs. Please suggest me any recent article or text that addresses the issue.

For reliability be a Cronbach Alpha analysis and for Validity do a Factor Analysis Rotated.
Donald, in case of formative construct Cronbach Alpha does not make any sense as it tests internal consistency. The indicators of a formative latent variable need not correlate neither they do represent a single sub-dimension. So we cannot calculate alpha and using factor analysis also does not serve any purpose.
