We don't wash cord blood after thawing, our procedure is thaw and dilution and it is infused immediately. Dextran is used in post thaw dilution for infusion. There is a shortage of Dextran and some centers are using Plasmlyte as a substiture for Dextran
hello, why do you want to wash your cord blood. There is a discussion that you can find on LinkedIn on the subject. Most of the transplanter are doing it because of the DMSO and other because of the lysed red blood cells. However, every time I confront them with the following question : so this means that you also wash your bone marrow and/or peripheral blood. No one say yes. If the recipient is a new born and that the cord blood unit have not been volume reduced, these would be the only indication. You can use the Rubinstein method which is the one used almost throughout the world and very largely published. However, if you want to limit stem cell loss please thaw and infuse directly into the recipient.
