Good noon to all. I am a newer in VHDL I don't know how I can use ieee_proposed library files. I got some errors while compiling my project in modelsim altera se6.5e. In my project I have used these files: library ieee_proposed; use ieee_proposed. Fixed_pkg. All; while using this library file I got below errors. ** Error: C: /altera/10.0/fixed pt. VHD (1) : library ieee_proposed not found. ** Error: C: /altera/10.0/fixed pt. VHD (2) : (vcom-1136) unknown identifier "ieee_proposed". ** Error: C: /altera/10.0/fixed pt. VHD (4) : VHDL compiler exiting I searched to clear this error in many way. Anyone told to create library as ieee_proposed. I did it. But I got same error. Please give me clear steps for clear this error. Thank you.

You might need to check what VHDL version you are using (it should be at least VHDL 2008). Moreover, a typical usage of libraries in VHDL is as follows (you should specify what package of that library should be included in your project, e.g., use ieee_proposed.fixed_float_types.all):
library ieee;
use ieee.std_logic_1164.all;
use ieee.numeric_std.all;
The solution is more depending on the Modelsim version that your are using.

This procedure was tested with Mentor ModelSim SE 6.5e and Xilinx ISE 13.2. Different tool versions should behave similarly. You are kindly requested to tell us your experiences.

Start ModelSim and create a new project. Name the project floatfixlib and enter ieee_proposed as default library name. You can choose any project location which is convenient for you. We recommend to use a folder name similar to C:\Xilinx\13.2\ISE_DS\ISE\vhdl\mti_se\6.5e\nt64\ieee_proposed.
Add the following files to the project: fixed_float_types_c.vhd, fixed_pkg_c.vhd, float_pkg_c.vhd. You'll find them in a folder silimar to C:\Xilinx\13.2\ISE_DS\ISE\vhdl\src\ieee_proposed.
From the ModelSim menu bar, select Compile, Compile Order.... In the dialog which pops up, click Auto Generate.
Wait for the compilation, then close the project.
In the ModelSim Library window, right click and choose New, Library... from the context menu.
Select a map to an existing library. For the library name, enter ieee_proposed. For Library maps to, browse to the location of the project you created. Click Ok.
Open modelsim.ini (you'll find it in the Modelsim installation folder) in a text editor and add the following line to the Library section: ieee_proposed = C:/Xilinx/13.2/ISE_DS/ISE/vhdl/mti_se/6.5e/nt64/ieee_proposed (again, modify the path according to your installation and mind the forward slashes which are required even on a Windows machine).
