Hello, I have attached a picture of a geometry with nodes created in ANSYS MAPDL. As shown in the figure, I need to transfer the entire geometry to the coordinate axes shown below with Node no.21 at the origin. Any kind of suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hello. Assuming you would like to mantain the shape (locations in the plane/space) of the nodes been created, you will need at least 2 nodes with coordinates (x, y) in the present node system (the one you created) and for the same nodes the corresponding coordinates (X, Y) in the destination coordinates system. Then you will be able to apply a simple similarity transformation. Let me know if this help. Good Luack and best regards, Ricardo
Why not create a new coordinate system (using LOCAL) and thereafter change to that system (using CSYS)?
Ansys don't allow mesh manipulation while the FE (nodes and elements) are associated to geometry. If you for some reason have to transfeer the nodes (instead of creating a new coordinate system) you have to remove the coupling between mesh and geometry.
Why you want change the position? Any simulation is possible by changing the conditions. The question is not clear can you elaborate your purpose..

Thanks for your kind reply. I've designed the model using CSYS,0. I tried with LOCAL for creating a reference coordinate system in the destination point, but I'm not able to transfer the geometry from the current cs system to the reference one. Kindly advice me about the use of CSYS.
After you've created the new cs with LOCAL you change the active cs to the newly created one using CSYS. If I remember correctly the first system you create get number 11 and hence you change to that one with CSYS,11. Everything you do thereafter is performed in the active cs and therefore there should be no need to transfer the geometry any further.

I tried with your suggestions. I am stuck at one place. I have changed the local coordinate system(Cs No.11) as the active coordinate system as you suggested. I now want to apply load in positive y direction, but with respect to the newly created cs system (Cs No.11). But when I applied the load, it came with respect to the old cs system. I am not able to figure out the issue.

When you apply the force I assume you do it with the "F" command which applies the force in the nodal coordinate system. Since you originally created the nodes in the original cs you have to rotate them to the new. This is performed with "NROTAT" when in the desired active cs.

Really appreciate it. I am trying to model a Carbon Nanotube by wrapping a Graphene Sheet. But I am not able to perform the wrapping operation in ANSYS yet. I am done with the the modeling of the sheet though.
Are you interested in the stresses in the structure after its been wrapped if it starts as a flat geometry or are you interested in a perfect graphene nanotube without prestress?
Yes sir, I am interested in stress analysis of the 3Dstructure after it is being wrapped up. Any idea about "wrapping of sheet" operations in ANSYS?

How can I use CDWRITE to archive a .cdb with the new nodal positions in the new coordinate system, after creating CSYS,11 and using NROTAT? When I read one model into my main model, the position i wanted is that of the old system still , even after using NROTAT. I tried deleting the other systems with CSDELE also, but the old coord system could not be deleted. Do you know how I can retain the new coordinate system after exporting .cdb? Thank you!
