Im trying to synthesize naphthyridinyl amino triazole from naphthyridinyl hydrazide by reaction with S-methylisothiourea sulfate and sodium hydroxide but the preciptated product have same RF of the hydrazide on TLC and its melting point is higher than hydrazide by only 4 degrees. How can I be sure if hydrazide reacted giving carboxyimidamid or didn't react?
Note: during reaction sulfur smell released may indicates formation of methyl mercaptan
