I am trying to synthesize MnZn ferrite nanoparticles using a coprecipitation method, but I am not able to get the desired magnetic phase.
I have tried heating the precipitate formed for 1/2 hr to 2 hrs, but still the magnetic phase does not appear.
Where could be the possible error?
Hello, first of all, I think you should be more specific about the method and the precursors you are using for the synthesis. The chemical methods commonly are REALLY sensitive to variations in concentrations, pH, temperature, precursors, etc.
Also, you have to consider that Mn has different valences, therefore you need to control de degree of oxidation of the Mn. I have been working on these kind of ferrites for a while, and I am pretty sure the phases can be obtained; however, to visualise what the problem is, more information is needed. Karmen: HI! I am using MnSO4, ZnSO4 and FeCL3 as precursors and whole reaction is done at 90 deg Celsius. I am using ammonia solution to precipitate with oleic acid as surfactant. the pH is maintained at 10.

I have gone through the paper. I have been following these steps only but thing is that even after keeping the suspension for digestion for more than a hour I am not able to get the crystalline phase of ferrite. Any suggestion why that not happening will be really very helpful
What phases are you obtaining? does the solution look completely disolved before adding the ammonia, if not, may be you should try with H2SO4, to disolve completely the precursors,
Also, commonly the reactions at 90 °C are not really stable, therefore some variations in temperatures may happen, Remember the boiling point of ammonia.
Some things that may be happening is, that the precursors are not well disolved, or that the solution is over oxydated during the reaction.
Karmen: The solution are well dissolved. The problem is I am getting completely amorphous nature of precipitate formed from PXRD results. I am getting the desired phase on annealing the sample at 250 celsius but thing is that the surfactant is lost at such high temperature and stoichiometry is also different from desired one.
