I have two parental populations that differ significantly from each other in a parameter. When cross-bred, the F1 has values for this parameter that lie in between. However, the difference from the parental populations is not significant. I guess that's due to the large within-group variance in that parameter. However, is it possible to test this value against an "expected" value instead of running a simple ANOVA? I think running an ANOVA in this case is conceptually wrong, because I don't expect the F1 generation to be significantly different than the parents, but much rather that its values lie in between! I appreciate your help!
