I am planning to conduct certain in planta experiments in which I need to use a soil that lacks any ammonia. Do you know if there's either a specific type of ammonia-free soil that is readily available or do you know of any methods to remove ammonia from standard greenhouse soil? Thanks in advance!
Spray water onto the affected area to soak the baking soda or lime into the soil. Soak the entire area to get the powder deep down to completely neutralize the smell. This will also help spread out the nitrogen in the urine and keep it from burning up your grass.
Rake the patchy areas to remove as much dead grass as possible.
Apply a layer of extra-fine ground limestone. Water the area to help the limestone absorb, then let it sit for a week.
Cover the patches with top soil then sprinkle grass seeds over them.
A study showed that soils with pH > 7.5 promoted the NH3 volatilization.
