How can I preserve slices of rat hippocampus after stimulating them for LTP, for a subsequent non-immediate analysis by western blot?

I need to have a certain number of treated slices and the respective controls prior to the extraction of respective proteins.

What is the best way to freeze the slices and then homogenize each condition?
