I have performed a optics calculation for a nanocluster and obtained the absorption, refractive index and dielectric function graphs w.r.t. frequency. I wish to calculate the optical loss and optical gain of the material. What are the crucial parameters required for that?

The energy of the incident photon may be losses through two main items:
1- Surface energy loss function, SELF.
2- Volume energy loss function, VELF.
Also the type of scattering elastic or inelastic may affect the optical energy loss .
