Hopefully, you are discussing about how to prepare compost in lab scale. Button mushroom compost generally prepared in the compost yard in large scale by the process solid state fermentation. Because a large number of thermophilic bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes are generated inside the pile of compost and which with the microbial activities temperature inside pile raises upto 60-65 C. So you can prepares compost in lab but that will not of good quality and lacking all their characteristics. You have purchase the compost from commercila unit or you can establish your own unit.
Easily you can make materials available in the lab. for demonstration solid state fermentation in a plastic boxes of 50-100 kg by adding thermophiles.So easily by adding inoculate of thermophiles. But its better to purchase from a commercial compost farm. of course it will be better if you try to prepare in the field (Composting pest ..........
u can prepare compost at your farm. it will take ~ 15 days to prepare button mushroom compost. first give the water to the straw for 2 days. after that mix different gradients like potash, urea, chokar, manure yard, and form a heap....
cover it completely by a plastic sheet and also place percolated pipe in the straw heap. fourth days take first turning. and again form heap....repeat it upto 15 days....then compost will be completed.. Now it is ready for adding mushroom spawning
