I'm trying to simulate a jet stream (solid carbon dioxide particles + nitrogen gas) passing through a simple nozzle into open domain. The stream will encounter an object in the open domain, and I will analyse the drag force on the object.
So far I've managed to model only air stream. How can I model the stream to be a mixture of solid CO2 particles and nitrogen gas? In Species Transport model, I only find a set mixture materials in FLUENT data base.
You have a two-phase system. Species is suitable to Chemical species as Air, water and salt, and single or complex chemical reactions. A phase can be a multicomponent system. You have a gas-solid system. There are some ways to model as DPM model, PBE approach, Granular Flow, Two-fluid model ( even the particles being a solid) , lagragian -Eulerian approach with one, two or four-way coupling, MUSIG. Each one is good for one situation and sometimes more than one can be applied. It will depends on the Stokes number, void fraction, length scales relative to flow. You can try first with a DPM model of FLUENT.
If the system you are going to include in your stream qualifies as disperse or dilute flow, with large spacing or particles and low stokes number, you should turn on the DPM and you can select the Lagrangian-Eulerian option with one way coupling. As Ricardo mentioned before, other characteristics of the multiphase flow you have in your hands will determine the physics you will include in your model. I would suggest you review the link below.
