I want to see Raman spectra of substances (like bisphenol A and phthalate) adsorbed onto microparticles.
If i wanted to see just Raman spectra of substances regardless of adsorbed state,
i would use SERS to analyze the sample and mix Au nanoparticles and target substances to make hotspot.
But the problem is that target substances are adsorbed onto microparticles.
i think it is hard to make hotspot of SERS just mixing Au nanoparticles and microparticles that target substances are adsorbed onto.
Are there any ideas or skills to make hotspot for SERS in this situation?
i'd really apreciate it if you could give me some help.
Also ATR-FTIR is a good alternative for vibrational spectroscopy, for study of agents adsorbed into the microparticles.
Have you tried using Raman in the transmission mode? This will give you a better bulk averaging of your sample irrespective of its components'
If you actually have bulk material of "microparticle powder" and adsorbed substances, I don't think sers is a good idea since it can also change the vibrational frequencies. If that is possible, better take a bulk powder spectrum. Then you can also compare to a bulk spectrum of your adsorbates and you don't have to think which shifts are due to SERS and which are due to your actual process.
But of course ATR-FTIR as suggested by Asadollah Asadi would also be a good idea. It would be expectable that e.g. BPA binds via the hydroxyl group and that might affect the IR-active vibrations more intensely
