How can I improve the Vilsmeier-Haack reaction?

Hello!

I am performing a Vilsmeier-Haack reaction where we are adding POCl3 (dropwise) to DMF for one hour in a ice bath while stirring. However, while doing the dropwise addition, the solution precipitates at around 25-28 minutes and my magnetic stir bar gets stuck to the point where it will not be able to stir the solution and it never quite returns to its original form. What are some methods that I could utilize that would allow me to better control the precipitate formation?
