I have silicon nanopowders and want to calculate bandgap of it but getting wrong results and no absorption even in crystalline silicon powder. I tried DI and some organic solvents but it didn't help. Please let me know if someone knew it.
Check the solubility in some hydrocarbon solvent and DMSO

I prepared Silicon nanopowders via ball milling route. I took Silicon powder and ball milled it to reduce the the crystalline size.
I tried DI water, distilled water, alcohol and ethylene glycol but particles do settle in bottom except the last one where particles got agglomerated.
Absorption spectra obtained is "constant increasing straight line graph" between absorbency and wavelength which is impossible.
I didn't measured the quantity but it will be around .01 g/ml approx or lesser.

yeah particle size varies from micron to sub-micron to nano but still in dense solution like ethylene glycol they tend to be agglomerate than disperse.
I tried sonication too every time but results again the same.
