I heard that men generate electrostatic charge for micro water particle, particularly positive charge. Although, shooting enormous water particles or fogging system can surpress dust, positive charged water particle is more efficient for surpressing dust, silica, and sludge, etc (attaced figure). Of course, I have ever seen negative charged ion based commercial air cleaner.
However, how water particle are charged? Are there any special techniques? I think that there may be some cases.
For example, electronic charger are installed at the outlet which water aerosol passing through, and generate shock and eliminate - ion. It can be relative positive charging condition.
Or,
There might be particular equipment for positive charging techniques (or negative charge).
I'm not majored in electric engineering, so it is difficult to understand to me. But I am interested in these topic and hope to know about it.

at least there are three ways to charge water droplets in general (positive/negative):
- field charging
- contact charging
- induced charging
Marc Schmidt described them in his PhD-Thesis "Theoretische und experimentelle Untersuchungen zum Einfluss elektrostatischer Effekte auf die Nassentstaubung"; University Fridericiana Karlsruhe; 1993 (Pages 78 - 80).

I think the best way to get a positive charge onto a droplet is via field charging, where electrons from the neutral particles on the droplet surface are removed by strong electric fields.
In any other case you will have most propably negative charging, because the electrons tend to have higher mobility due to their smaller mass and thus will accumulate on your surface much faster.

To charge the fine mist of water droplets, there exists various methods...such as Induction charging, conduction charging corona and many more. For charging a liquid droplet, Induction charging proved to be a very satisfactory technique. We have been working in this area for the last 5-6 years and developed instruments for liquid pesticide spraying.
