Does anyone have experience using Trizol or Trizol LS to extract total nucleic acid from stool? I need to use these reagents in order to remove samples from a BSL-4 containment laboratory. Would I have to do any preliminary preparation before adding the Trizol(LS)?
You could also try kits like: QIAamp DNA Stool Mini Kit, Stool DNA Isolation Kit (Cat. 27600) | Norgen Biotek Corp. or ISOLATE Fecal DNA Kit | bioline.com. Hope it helps.

The Qiagen QIAMP DNA Stool kit Cat# 51504 is one of the best in the market. I have been using it for years.
In our lab, we use the automated extraction of Biomerieux (easyMAG). Extract DNA and RNA, from stool, of excellent quality with fast treatment add Lysis Buffer, 10 minutes before the procedure.
I have used many times the kit QIAamp DNA Stool Mini Kit, Stool DNA Isolation Kit (Cat. 27600) from Qiagen but just for extract DNA, I have never extracted RNA from faeces but there are kits too I think
