A good book to read about using XRD to tell apart the polymorphs (as well as other TAG properties) is "physical properties of lipids" by Alejandro G Marangoni & Suresh S. Narine. I don't have perfect recall, but I think a peak at 4.6 A is indicative of the beta polymorph whereas a peak at 4.2 A is indicative of the beta prime polymorph. The book has links to the original papers.
