Can someone please explain how to determine the fault parameters such as length of rupture, downdip rupture width and rupture area given the frequency spectra of the seismograph? Assume a rectangular rupture area. How accurate are the values of fault parameters determined by this procedure as compared to emperical relationships such as Wells and Coppersmith etc.?

From the spectra of earthquake waveform, we can estimate rupture area, dimension of fault in terms of radius of fault (In this it is assumed that earthquake source is circular - famous omega square model of Brune (1970)). The average displacement over fault as well as stress released and seismic moment (because earthquakes are considered to occur because of double couple of force systems along fault and its perpendicular direction). There are numerious publications on these estimations. you can search publication EARTHQUAKE SOURCE PARAMETERS + Brune (1970) on google....GOOD LUCK...
thank you sir. i've learnt that corner frequency is very important in predicting the fault parameters. can you please suggest any method to accurately determine the corner frequency given the frequency spectra.
I have published one paper on this "Software for estimation of earthquake spectral and source parameters". Some other works are also their based on genetic algorithms etc. TRY THOSE .... or very independently think over this ....things can be done in many ways....
