We have identified some conserved lncRNAs that are specific for a disease we are studying in both Humans and Mice. However, since the most described animals models are rats we want to see whether this lncRNA is present in rats as well.

In humans/mice 80% of the sequence is overlapping with a coding gene but the part that is an intron, is what we used to detect via qPCR.

We designed primers for the intron area of the rat genome and are picking up a signal with the PCR (while no signal in the NO-RT control).

How can we best see if the lncRNA exists and is the product we are picking up with the PCR.
