we wish to establish water quality testing laboratory in our department. i wish to know the prerequisites and equipment required for the same. help me in this regard
If you have a limited budget I suggest that you start with a photometer, some burettes and a pH meter. With this you can check parameters that are immediately of concern in drinking water and which cannot be send out to a fully equipped laboratory. nother important equipment that is required for even basic analysis is a water purifier for producing distilled or deionised water.
The parameters you can measure are different forms of chlorine, nitrate, ammonia, pH. If you have water that are not chemically disinfected an incubator and autoclave is also reasonable cheap and allows microbiological analysis.
The micropollutants require advanced equipment and skills, but parameters such as pesticides, heavy metals are of long term concern and the samples for this are generally stable enough that they can be send to a laboratory for quantification.
Elizabeth, if want to do analysis for Bacteriological analysis in particular for E- colliform and MPN bactaria in water we need to do Biological laboratory. In India, this particular parameter has been taken care by pathological laboratories.however this type of addition in laboratory based on our needs and funding.
Most of the equipment and other requirements are given by Mr.V K Sxena. In addition to this for trace analysis of pesticides and dissolved drug residues GC-MS ,solvent extraction ,column cleaning, vaccum evaporator,TDS meter for total dissolved solid are needed. If the water to be analysed contain some wastes then BOD andCOD equipments are required.Apart from the equipments ASTM or BIS methods for water analysis should be there. If u need further query regarding chemical analysis u can get back.
I am a young entrepreneur interested in establishing a laboratory in India. Can you guide me of the cost estimation for these above mentioned instruments. I want to be well prepared before I start. Please do guide me.. thanks in advance..
