The only stages of malaria parasites capable of establishing an infection in a mosquito are the gametocytes that circulate in the blood of the veterbrate host. Within minutes of ingestion by a mosquito the gametocytes transform into mature gametes in the process of "exflagellation." This process is controlled in vitro solely by the change in pH in the blood as it moves from the environment of the circulation to that of the atmosphere, the pH rise being mediated by the fall in carbon dioxide tension as the blood equilibrates with the atmosphere.

The most important thing is temperature. There is an approximate change in temperature of >10 degrees C from circulation in the vertebrate host to that of the mosquito (at insectary or natural conditions).  In order to minimize gamete activation and male exflagellation, try to keep your blood sample as close to 37 degrees as possible. It is always best to feed your mosquitoes as quickly as possible.

As Ryan said, temperature is the most crucial things. Keep your samples at or slightly above 37 degrees C at all times, as a significant drop in temperature triggers exflagellation and gamete activation. For this same reason it is also advisable that you  prepare the feeders in advance and keep them warmed up.

For the best results, try to feed the mosquitoes as soon as possible after the blood samples have been taken. However, it is possible to keep the samples viable for a while (for example, if you need to transfer the samples from the field to the lab), a few hours perhaps, but you must keep them warm at all times. 

Also, do not expose the blood samples to air for long periods of time (keep tubes with blood closed at all times and once in the lab, transfer the samples into pre-wared feeders straight away).

I would also recommend that you look up papers about mosquito feeding assays, such as Bousema et al from 2012 (in PLOS One) and 2013 (Trends in Parasitology), or Churcher et al paper from 2012 (in International Journal for Parasitology).
