I am having bathymetry data on an area and I want to use it to continue beach profiles down to a few meters deep. The data can be output from the processing software as ASCII (XYZ), Surfer (GRD) and Esri (ASC). I need to cut many parallel profiles at a distance of a few tens of meters, so doing it manually is the last option due to the large number. Do you know a software that can handle big volume of data to do what I want and how to do it? Thanks!
In ArcMap (also using the Edit Tool extension), draw a more or less straight line along the shore. You can then create 'station lines' at regular intervals along this base line which will be your profiles (if your base line is not straight, you may need to manually 'turn' some of them so they are non intersecting and shore perpendicular). Then create points along these station lines at a set interval suitable for the DEM in question and finally query the DEM with the point theme. Good luck, Uwe
