I am trying to do a stress analysis of a flapping wing. Wing is supported by a circular beam. When I am creating wing surface using extrude the connection between beam and extruded surface works pretty well. But when I want to create surface without extruding, I mean which is not a 3D solid, connection between beam and surface gets disturbed and results vary a lot. I have to use surface body instead of solid bodies as I am later going to use layer up section to create layers. I tried to followings:
1.Automatic Contact- did not work
2.Surface body and Line body connection( beam was created as line body to search if it works)
3. Uniting them as I body did not work.
I don't know how to satisfy the connection between a surface body and a solid body so that the result remains same if the surface body was a 3D model.
Hi. You are trying to merge incompatible bodies. Although you could manage to fix them geometrically speaking (by tie the Nodes), in the analysis would not make sens since the boundary conditions you want to apply are incompatible with a 2D/3D linking process (i.e. rotations and moments). This sounds a little difficult. Regards.
No sure which code you are referring to, but the tying option is the way to go and most FE codes have such feature. If you are using Ansys work bench, just use the contact option and the rest will be taking care of. Hope that helped.
