I am giving initial swelling to the region 1 as shown in the figure attached. The marked portion of the region 2 will be under tensile hydrostatic stress due to initial swelling.Now I want to create a set of nodes of region2 in which hydrostatic stress reached a certain threshold value.In the next step, I want to impose the swelling strain on this set and so on.I think it is similar to creating set warn distort elements in Abaqus.But how does Abaqus do that? or is there any other way to do this?
any answers will be appreciated.Thank you very much in advance

At first, you have to mesh your part or instances, then you need to create a node set from ABAQUS tools; at the end you must define your nodes on a specific node set.

there are many ways to create your own set.
For your case, I suggest to do the followings:
1- In part module go to the partition face and sketch a partition exactly as you want
2- After creation of the partition, go to Step module and from the top ribbon bar, Tools>Set
3- select the partition as a Geometry (Abaqus generate nodes and elements for that geometry automatically)
4- that's all.

thank you very much for help.I dont want to create a set during the preprocessing of the model rather i want to create a set during solving process of the model.
During solving process of the model some elements satisfy the given criteria(as specified in the question) . i want to create a set of those elements(or nodes of those elements) and no of elements in this set are keep on changing during solving process
can i do this in abaqus?

I don't think it is possible to create an NSET dynamically during a simulation, but you can of course use Fortran routines like uexternaldb to look at results for all elements and write results to a file (to be processed later).
Hello to everyone! I need to create a set in the visualization module (.odb file opened with write privileges) and export it in the original cae (in the property module in order to assign a different material to that set) but still with write privileges i cannot create the set.
Can someone help me?
Laura Ierimonti , I did the the following steps to create a set from odb and import it to cae.
1. read the odb file to select the nodes of importance by using the python scripting.
2. export the selected nodes from odb to create a set.
3. Include this set into the original input file using *nset command
