The (chemical) molecular formula  of you biomass can be obtained as CHxOyNzSp; which will be obtained from the  ultimate analysis, normalized the molar number of Carbon to 1, and eliminate the metal elements contents. And the molecular weight  （W ,g/mol）of biomass is :

W=12(C)+x*1(H)+y*16.00(O)+z*14.01(N)+p*32.07 (S) g/mol

Because your row biomass for experiment is 1 g, and the molar number (n , mol)of the used biomass gives:

n(biomass)=1/W;

Assuming that there are V (L) mixed-gases is obtained by you.  And the molar of each component gas is given as (gives the CH4 as an example):

n CH4=(V/22.4)*q /100;

where, q (%) is the molar percentage fraction of  your gas components (CH4 is 5%)

And then, the mol/mol of your gases is gives as:

eta=nCH4/n(biomass)

how do convert mass fraction into g/kg and g/kwh?

I guess you must have measured syngas volume too. for example if your biomass consumption per second is 1 g, and syngas flow is 1 m3/sec. then, syngas output is 1 m3/Kg of biomass. then, you have , temperature and pressure of syn gas output. If it is at stp, then density of hydrogen in syn gas is 0.089 Kg/m3.

Hence, you have mol fraction % of gas composition. you can assume ideal gas law applies, then mol% and volume% of gas fraction are almost same.

then, g (h2)/ g (biomass) = {0.4 (H2 vol%) *1 (m3/sec) syngas*0.089 (Kg/m3)*1000 (to convert into gm)} / 1 g/sec (biomass feed rate)
