I have a catalyst having active site Ru(OH). Is there any way to calculate the No. of active sites Ru and OH for the catalyst. I am interested to calculate OH sites. I will be thankful if some body throw light on this issue with some reference article explaining the method. Thanks in advance.
acid site depends on reaction .it may be metal site or support site
in metal site it may be calculated on dispersion metal . if you want in support site than you have calculates acidity by TPD, FTIR.
but in your case you are using Ru(OH) catalyst , Your interested i to calculate OH site .This can be calculated by FTIR OR MICRCALOTIMETRY Analysis.
Qualitatively, you can track the bond O-H using IR spectroscopy (DRIFTS technique for solid state analysis), quantitatively you can use de adsorption of some gas (e.g, NO, CO) and measure the adsorption of this gases on the surface, the bond in the molecule adsorbed usually has a specific signal that you can track by IR spectroscopy.
