How can I bring down the salinity of artificial sea water to 20 PSU for a lab experiment? Is adding desirable amount of DI water right thing to do?

Yes. For salinity trials I worked always with saltwater aquarium salt instead of seawater. I did this to get a more uniform salt water product.
