Soil nutrient availability is influenced by pH. An organic amendment does a function of nutrient addition at the same time it changes soil pH. More importantly, it also modifies soil CEC and thereby pH buffering capacity. In such situation, when I add organic amendment to soil, 1) it will add nutrients and increase available pool. 2) Change soil pH as well as Increase pH buffer capacity. In such situation if I want to study the pH range in which my organic amendment is most effective, I should study nutrient availability at different pH levels. If I add organic acid, it will change soil organic C stock of the treatments. If I add inorganic ones, the inorganic cation will serve as nutrient. Which is a suitable acid or base used to adjust pH in such cases without fear of unequal C or nutrient addition?
