As I understand from the posts of frustrated users and the help pages, it is "currently" not possible to add a name of journal not in your database to user's publication listing. I would understand if this was a temporal problem after a substantial update of the inner workings of the site, which would be addressed in few days, or at most few weeks. But seeing this thread:

I have the same problem. A journal I published in is not listed in the dropdown and I cannot add the text of the journal name. So I cannot add my publication correctly.

Same problem here: I have uploaded several articles that were published in the Asian Bioethics Review, a legitimate journal that exists since 10 years and is well recognised in the bioethics community.

I contacted ResearchGate Community Support. Their answer is "At this time, we do not add missing journals to our database upon request. However, this may be something that will be reviewed in the future." This seems a rather odd position for a platform that has "share and discover research" as its slogan.

Always better to use Academia.edu. Journal names are completely under your control :)

I agree this is really frustrating. I hope the staff is aware how much and will act quickly to solve the problem. And I will let them know to make sure they know.

My opinion is that every journal with an ISSN code should be added in ResearchGate list. It’s not up to the staff of RG to decide how relevant a publication is; it’s the scientific community’s. The actual limitation runs counter the mission of a platform like RG.

Many predatory journals have an ISSN and I am not too fond of these. I think it is a good thing to keep them out. But that should not be a reason for not adding any legitimate journals. Dear Karel Caals, I fully agree with your specification. Every non-predatory journal with ISSN should be added to RG list.

I have also just had this issue. It seems like they could at least process requests to add certain journals, even if they didn't want to take the time to add every non-predatory journal with an ISSN.

Additionally, RG already has certain features that could help to bolster the legitimization process of a journal that is requested or added. For example, they ask for researchers to confirm publications of other researchers. They could use the same framework for journals. They could ask for other researchers within the same or similar field to confirm that it is a legitimate and non-predatory journal.

I'm having this issue a lot right now. Much of my research is quite niche and the publications are very specific - Research Gate has very few of these titles listed, so my articles are just going up without the publication name.

I have started to just add the name of the journal between square brackets to the title of my article in such cases.

Untill this issue resolves, Mentioning the journal specification in bracket along with article title seems feasible.

A journal that is published by Elsevier and ISI & Scopus listed yet can't it cannot be found in the RG platform is Very odd!!!

This issue has been raised more than 6 months ago, yet it hasn't been resolved!!!

Indeed, it makes absolutely no sense. It may be a good idea to alert Elsevier of the problem; just a quick email. If they throw their weight behind it as a big publisher, they may have more success in swaying ResearchGate. Regarding the Asian Bioethics Review, I contacted Springer Nature. They replied that they were aware of the problem and that they were currently preparing a list of all their publications that are not accepted by ResearchGate, in order to take action. Let's hope they have more success.

It seems like no official solution has been decided yet, but for now I also put the journal title in square brackets.

I have found the same problem. For some reason i can't add the journal name in some articles, including indexed periodics. I will follow the past comments and put the journal title in square brackets. I hope we get a solution soon.

Yes, I suspect it doesn't help our scores. I listed the paper title, abstract, and citation, and my score actually went down!

I think the only viable solution is to contact the editor of the journal and have her/him contact ResearchGate directly about adding the journal to the database.

Who cares what journal your paper is published in? Presumably, the contents of the paper is what matters :)

While I agree the journal title is an over-inflated metric, having a journal title greatly aids in indexing and searching.

I think, at this point, it seems like a fairly common issue. It would be more helpful if people could list the journal name so we can start making a list that maybe someone who programs for RG could use.
