The Lake Bosumtwe in the Ashanti Region of Ghana keeps on deteriorating at a relatively faster rate affecting the aquatic biodiversity pregnant in it. Preliminary research in a related study revealed that the causes are primarily as a result of negative human impacts. This has aggravated because of the abolishment and weak enforcement of the cultural traditions that formerly served as checks and balances for the Lake while maintaining its purity.

Hi Dickson, the best way is to do a physical demonstration to these cultural groups. In my experience all female groups are the best places to start because of the role the "African mother" plays in our African traditional society.
In a similar encounter in a local project in Cameroon couple of years back, I used clean water in a big container bowl to represent the local lake and hermits (crabs) and tadpoles to represent aquatic life as an example and gradually added debris to show the locals what is happening to their lake. As the debris load increase the available breathing and habitat space obviously decreases until a point of saturation where both the water colour as well as possible flooding were becoming visibly out of control and the locals got the message. The discussion then changed to alternative methods of waste disposal which was actually my topic of the day. Sounds cheesy but it worked. Thanks
