Article A Taxonomy of Management Theories

Nothing obsolete in management theory especially in underdeveloped and some developing countries where access to innovation and creativity is ravaged by war and little attention is paid to education of citizenry and their development through innovation and technology. Leaders of these countries are only interested in positions and nothing like reading habits of students and libraries with new books and even virtual. No electricity to link to develop world, no new inventions and discovery. Businesses are packing up! Where is new management theory going to evolve whether scientific or theoretical! No "event" No new innovation and inventions.

In Management.Issues, Robert Heller stated that management has never been generally thought of as an exciting or thrilling activity. But this is mostly due to ignorance. Only a small proportion of people have direct experience of what's involved in management, what managers are like, and the enormous difference effective management styles can make in the world.

At the same time, Gary Hamel goes on to explain that, like the combustion engine, [management is] a technology that has largely stopped evolving, and that's not good.

I believe management and management theories. Even the Mcgregor's XY Theory of Management which was presented in 1960 cannot be obsolete.

Dear Mr. Mihaescu:

In these times were digital technologies are changing evertything, management is of course changing, but this doesn´t mean it´s obsolete. I would rather say there are many ways of managing, and that is not a new question, in the sixties (1961), Harold Koontz wrote "the management theory jungle" meaning that. Something that is also true in 2019.

So, when you want to manage correctly in 2019, you need to understand what happened before in order to pick up the best ideas and put them into practice according to the present.

I would say that there is no human knowledge that can be said is obsolete. Not at all in management, I refuse to accept McGregor has no sense in the present, for instance. I agree wiht what Mr. Mahfuz says.

While I agree with my predecessors, I see main problem of today's managers is beyond management, it is the need to be high-moral trusting transformational leaders whose dialogue with trusted employees build cooperative problem-solving and creative innovation since no any human being is able to know all that is essential for unconventional, breakthrough innovations that are the key for organizational success today.
