Bacteria can change the pH of media by producing EPS. In my work, initial pH of nutrient broth is 6.5 and after the bacterial growth pH increases about 7.5. Which type of reactions can involved in media responsible for increasing pH?
Bacteria may evolved carbondioxide may convert to bicarbonate ions which may increase pH .
This might be due to conversion of protein into ammonia.
or Bacteria culture produces enzymes like protease, which has alkaline pH and microbe might produce products of alkaline nature.
Thank you Ashok sir and Anwar sir.
